International public health experts say blood samples to check for Tb shouldn’t be used anymore. The World Health Organization will be issuing new recommendations this week stopping the use of blood to test for tuberculosis. According to experts, TB blood tests are not as effective as previously thought. TB testing is crucial as the disease can rapidly spread from the lungs to other organs, such as the brain, spine and kidneys, leading to life threatening conditions.

Remember, tests are done to determine the cause of your symptoms or disorder. Since the blood goes around the body, it can carry traces of the illness you have wherever it is, brain, hands, feet, anywhere within your body. Next time a doctor explain the results of your blood test, don’t be shy to ask for explanations, indications and what does those names and numbers mean.*
