National Environmental Management Authority officers from Nairobi stormed the Embu Provincial General Hospital and the Government Training Institute who have flouted set regulations.
The institutions, which are undertaking major constructions are accused of failing to observe the Environmental Impact Assessment. The Nema officers reportedly sought audience with the hospital superintendent Dr C. Muli before proceeding to GTI Embu where they met with the director Dr M.O Khayota.
According to reliable sources, the meeting was prompted by the two institution’s refusal to present the mandatory reports on the major projects they are carrying out in the institutions. The hospital is carrying out a major rehabilitation and is erecting story buildings in the compound while GTI is constructing a modern administration block. The two institutions have allegedly refused to submit the EIA reports which any public or private body is required to present to nema before the construction is given a go ahead.
