MALE ZIMBABWEAN Cabinet ministers will soon be required to demonstrate “leadership by excision”: The ministers are to be circumcised under a programme started in 2009 to reduce the spread of HIV/ Aids. The government says the programme will also target MPs and councillors as way of encouraging men to get circumcised. Since studies in South Africa and Kenya found that male circumcision reduces the risk of transmitting HIV by up to 60 per cent in cases of heterosexual sex, Zimbabwe has intensified the campaign to have men circumcised, with the country intending to circumcise 80 per cent of its male population, a total of about five million men.
