There was drama outside Machakos Level Five Hospital as striking nurses attempted to storm into the institution and force their working colleagues to join them. But guards thwarted their bid by refusing to open the main entrance.

The nurses said they wanted to flush out their colleagues who have since resumed work, calling them traitors. They then hit the streets waving twigs and placards calling for the immediate sacking of Medical Services Minister Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o.

“Nyong’o sacked us in 2012, we will sack him in 2013,” read one of the placards while another read,” no union, no work”.
