Kenya: 8,000 Busia Men to Get Circumcised

A non-governmental research organisation is set to circumcise 8,000 men from Busia county aimed at reducing HIV/Aids infections. Impact Research coordinator Bernard Ayieko said the organisation targets 8,000 men from Teso South, Teso North, Butula and Samia districts for next one month.

Speaking in Malaba during the launch of the circumcision campaign yesterday, Ayieko said the exercise will be done 24 hours a day and will be free of charge in public hospitals in the region.

He said the exercise also targets people who have not had the opportunity to visit health facilities to be circumcised during the day either due to commitments or fear of being seen.

Ayieko expressed satisfaction at the number of men who have shown interest in circumcision and appealed to those who are yet to be circumcised to take advantage of the opportunity. During the launch, several people, including Ugandans, were circumcised.
